Rhode Islanders gear up for frigid forecast

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — With freezing temperatures expected early this week, Rhode Islanders have officially bundled up for winter conditions.

With first snowfall of the year Sunday, dozens of skaters took to The Providence Rink Monday.

“I don’t mind it, but I wish the snow would come along with it,” said Charlie from Cumberland. “That’s kind of like the benefit. You put up with it and it’s not here yet, so it’s just cold for no reason.”

Explaining his concerns for the week, he continued, “It’s not fun to have to wake up and budget your time to chip away at ice [on the car] for like a good 15 minutes. Every time it always makes me late.”

Out-of-state students at Brown University said the winter conditions are always an adjustment.

One senior explained, “Nothing can prepare you for it until it’s 8:30 in the morning, and you’re slipping on the way to your classes.”

Suggestions from Rhode Islanders Monday consisted of layers, hot beverages, and cautious driving to combat the freezing forecast.
