RI delays release of annual science test results

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The state education department has delayed the release of the annual science test results because of concerns with the scores from one grade.

Spokesman Elliot Krieger said Monday the state Department of Education has contacted the testing company, Measured Progress. He said he couldn’t elaborate on their specific concerns.

The department had planned to release the results last week. It now expects to do so next week.

Schools use the science results from the New England Common Assessment Program to assess their programs. Krieger said the scores are not used as a graduation requirement or to rate schools.

The test in question was taken by fourth-, eighth- and 11th-grade students in May. Krieger said students won’t have to retake it.
