RI Dept. of Health Director tests positive for COVID-19, Governor Raimondo in quarantine

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): Rhode Island Dept. of Health Director Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott has tested positive for COVID-19 and now Governor Gina Raimondo is in quarantine.

Governor Raimondo has tested negative, according to Josh Block, a spokesperson for Governor Raimondo’s office.

Dr. Alexander-Scott tested positive early Saturday, according to Block.

“She is asymptomatic and will continue working from home,” Josh Block said. “In accordance with the Department of Health guidance, Governor Gian Raimondo and several members of her senior leadership will be self-quarantining.”

The press conference planned for Thursday, 12/7 will be moved to Friday, 12/18 at 1 p.m.

“The Governor last saw Dr. Alexander-Scott in person at last Thursday’s press conference,” Block said.

In a tweet, Governor Raimondo said she tested negative for the second time on Sunday.
