RI DLT will automatically process unemployment benefits to claimants after weekend snag

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training is automatically certifying payments for unemployed Rhode Islanders this week.

The automatic certification is coming after many experienced issues when certifying their eligibility for the previous week.

Additional questions regarding continued eligibility were asked and confused both online and over the phone claimants.

Margaux Fontaine, spokesperson for DLT said, “The Unemployment Insurance certification system was updated to add additional questions regarding continued eligibility for unemployment benefits. The U.S. Department of Labor directed DLT to add these questions in order to be compliant with federal regulations. The new questions were implemented in both the phone and online certification systems.”

The confusion over the weekend caused many claimants to be denied payment.

Fontaine added, “We understand that these changes caused many claimants confusion while certifying yesterday, so we will be automatically processing payments for every claimant who experienced issues when certifying. Claimants can expect to receive their payment by the end of the week. There is no need to contact DLT.”

Going forward, the Department of Labor and Training has reworded certification questions to assist claimant with their weekly certification process.
