RI DOT Closing Bridge Due to Flood Damage
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced Monday that a bridge in Richmond will be closed, after an inspection revealed structural damage from the historic floods in March.
As part of the ongoing bridge inspections after the flooding, an underwater check of the bridge – on Route 138, between Routes 2 and 112, over the Usquepaugh River – showed that the bridge's abutments were undermined by the currents of the flood waters.
The DOT hopes to make the necessary repairs to the bridge, and have it open again in three weeks.
