RI GOP Convention Kicks Off Wednesday

CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island Republicans will hold their statewide convention to pick a slate of endorsed candidates for high-profile races such as governor and U.S. Congress.

The convention being held Wednesday in Cranston features national GOP Chairman Michael Steele as a guest speaker.

Among the more interesting decisions facing party members is who to endorse for lieutenant governor.

Independent Bob Healey is making his fourth run for lieutenant governor on a platform of eliminating the office, and he's seeking the Republican endorsement.

The party's nominating committee has
recommended endorsing another candidate, Heidi Rogers, who has adopted Healey's now-familiar platform.

In the governor's race, the committee has recommended John Robitaille get the endorsement over Victor Moffitt.
