RI Governor to Host Virtual Town Hall Meeting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee is set to host a telephonic town hall meeting.

Chafee has invited 8,200 state residents to participate in the teleconference, set for Thursday evening.

Chafee, an independent, says the virtual town hall meeting will allow him to directly brief taxpayers on his efforts to help struggling cities and towns and stabilize public pension plans.

Chafee says he also wants to gather ideas and answer questions posed by participants in the teleconference. Those randomly picked to participate were notified by phone on Wednesday.

Chafee says all Rhode Islanders can submit their ideas or questions on the governor's website.

Next week Chafee is set to submit his annual budget proposal and deliver the state of the state address.
