RI lawmaker due in Mass. court on 2008 charges

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island lawmaker is due to face a judge in a Massachusetts court on charges of fleeing from a police officer during a 2008 motor vehicle chase.

State Rep. Daniel Gordon is set to attend a status hearing Monday in Fall River District Court.

He is charged with failing to stop for police, driving with a suspended license and other offenses, and is free on $1,000 bail.

The 42-year-old Portsmouth Republican spent a weekend in jail last month after Rhode Island officers learned Gordon was wanted for allegedly being a fugitive from justice in that case. The arrest exposed his lengthy criminal history in Massachusetts.

A few days earlier, Rhode Island state police charged him with driving on a suspended license, a misdemeanor that was dismissed earlier this month.
