RI Man Charged with 1st Degree Murder in Student Death
NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island man has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly shooting a Massachusetts college student in the head and leaving his body in the trunk of a rental
car.
A Newport County grand jury last week indicted 24-year-old James Lapre of Tiverton in the killing of Andrew Taylor of Freetown, a 25-year old student at Bristol Community College.
Lapre allegedly shot Taylor at his home in Tiverton around Jan. 22, then put Taylor's body in the trunk of a rental car and drove it to Fall River. The body was discovered after the car was towed.
Authorities have said Lapre intended to rob Taylor.
At the time of the killing, Lapre was out on bail for allegedly making a bomb threat against a former employer.
