RI Man Charged with Pulling Knife on Census Worker

RICHMOND, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island man has been charged with threatening a U.S. Census worker with a knife.

Twenty-seven-year-old Clifford John Fantel of Richmond was charged May 3 with assault with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct and released on personal recognizance. He did not comment
when contacted by The Westerly Sun.

A police report says Verne Johnson was speaking with Fantel's mother outside his home last month while taking the 2010 census. He told police he turned to see Fantel holding a knife blade down
against his arm, shouting profanities and telling him to get off the property.

Johnson was not hurt.

Fantel's mother told police she did not see a knife. Fantel was arrested when he went to the police station to lodge a complaint against the census worker.
