RI National Guard Airmen return from deployment on Fourth of July

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI – A patriotic homecoming for Rhode Island National Guard Members returning home from deployment.

Over 100 Airmen returned to the Quonset Air National Guard Base on Thursday from a deployment in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

More Airmen will be returning home to the Quonset National Guard Base Friday as well.

The Airmen returning include personnel from a cross-section of aviation operations, aircraft maintenance, and support specialties.

“We are thrilled to welcome our Airmen safely back home after another outstanding performance in an overseas theater,” said Col. Michael Comstock, 143d Airlift Wing Commander.  “Since 9-11, our RHODY team has proven its exceptional skill and professionalism time and again in the most challenging conditions.  We look forward to the safe return of all our deployed Airmen over the course of the next year.”

While the airmen were deployed, they supported air mobility operations for the sustainment of the combat capability of the country’s armed forces, including troop movements, supply missions, and humanitarian efforts.
