RI Rep. Segal Running for Kennedy Seat

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A third Democrat is jumping into the race to succeed Patrick Kennedy in Congress.

State Rep. David Segal on Wednesday plans to kick off his campaign during an announcement in East Providence. He's running against Providence Mayor David Cicilline and former Democratic Party Chairman Bill Lynch.

The 30-year-old Providence resident has been in the House since 2006 and before that was a Green Party member of the Providence City Council.

Segal's General Assembly biography lists his profession as a teacher, tutor and freelance journalist.

Wendy Schiller, a political scientist at Brown University, says Segal is not a favorite to win, but may be trying to lay the groundwork for a future run for office.
