RI State Police Announce Arrest in Highway Shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island State Police say they have arrested a Providence man that they believe opened fire on a rival during rush hour traffic.

Police said Wednesday that 19-year-old Devyn Garris was arrested Tuesday afternoon. He is facing a number of charges including assault with intent to commit murder.

The announcement was made Wednesday at state police headquarters in North Scituate.

Police say a man was shot Aug. 8 while driving on Route 146 south in Providence. The victim is expected to recover.

Investigators believe the shooting wasn't a random act. Authorities say they believe they found an abandoned vehicle owned by Garris shortly after the shooting in Providence.
