Police ID body found off I-295 by hikers; confirm homicide

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence police have confirmed that a body found Friday afternoon near the Lincoln and Cumberland town line was the victim of a homicide.

The man has been identified by Providence Police as 50-year-old Jose Segura of Providence.

Segura was reported missing by family members on Nov. 10, after last being seen in the area of the Dexter Training Grounds on Nov. 3, according to a statement from the Providence Police Department.

Segura’s body was discovered by hikers Friday afternoon, near an abandoned rest area off of I-295, according to Rhode Island State Police Lt. Col. Kevin Barry.


Providence police are now asking the public for assistance in the investigation.

Segura is described as a Hispanic male, standing approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighing between 190 and 200 pounds.
