RI State Police investigating crash that left a 68-year-old man dead in West Greenwich

WEST GREENWICH, RI (WLNE) – State Police say they’re investigating a fatal car crash that happened Friday morning on Route 95 South in West Greenwich.

Russel Nauta, 68, of Westport, Mass., was killed after he allegedly collided with a tow truck that was in the process of towing another vehicle in the breakdown lane.

State Police say they arrived on the scene, south of Weaver Hill Road around 8:30 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicated the tow truck was stopped and in the process of loading a disabled car when Nauta’s car entered the breakdown lane and collided with the stopped tow-truck, according to state police.

The tow truck operator and the driver whose vehicle was in the process of being towed were not injured, state police say.

There were no lane restrictions at the time of the crash, according to state police.

The tow truck is owned by Astro Wrecker Services in West Warwick, according to the police.
