Richmond police officer facing alleged domestic violence charge

RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) – A Richmond police officer is facing domestic violence charges after an alleged incident that happened in Westerly.

According to police chief Elmwood Johnson, the Westerly Police department notified him that they had charged officer Ryan Donohue with three misdemeanor offenses pertaining to a domestic violence allegation which reportedly took place while the officer was off-duty.

Donohue has been placed on paid suspension while the investigation is ongoing.

Chief Johnson stated that Donohue was hired in 2014, and has been an “exemplary police officer and has served the community honorably.”

The incident is still under investigation.
