UPDATE: Police identify Richmond woman who died of exposure

RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) — A woman who left her home Friday night and died after spending several hours outside in the cold has been identified.

Richmond Police say 20-year-old Haley Ferrante walked away from her home Friday.

An officer found her just after 1 a.m. Saturday about 35 yards from Carolina Nooseneck Road down a steep rocky embankment along a narrow brook.

Police responded to a residence shortly after 11:00 p.m. Friday for a report of a 20-year-old female, whose name has was not released at the time, who had last been seen leaving the area of the home on foot around 10:15 p.m.

Ferrante was wet and breathing but unconscious. She was transported by ambulance to South County and then to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead several hours later.
