RIDEM Director says that Newport Music Festivals “could happen”

Covid 19 Takes A Toll On Newport’s Tourism Industry, Folk And Jazz Festivals

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE)- Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management(RIDEM) Director, Janet Coit, hinted at the return of the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals this summer.

Coit said that the festivals could happen with reduced capacity while being spread out over several days.

She said that attendance could require proof of vaccination or at least recent negative test results.

RIDEM spokesman, Michael Heely, told ABC6 that, “after the heartbreak of no festivals last summer, it’s not too early to say that Director Coit, DEM, and NFF leadership are committed to staging these iconic events as safely as possible this year.”
