RIDEM, DPW finalize cleanup after boat explosion in North Kingstown
NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced they’ve finalized the cleanup at Long Point Boat Ramp after a boat exploded.
According to the DEM, when the boat exploded and was engulfed in flames, a significant amount of gasoline was spilled onto the ground.
The Rhode Island Department of Public Works said they deployed hundreds of absorbent materials to prevent the gas from spreading deeper into the ground.
The following day, a contractor remediated the area by removing the absorbed gasoline and excavating the contaminated soil.
The DEM further thanked North Kingstown first responders for their quick response, which they said was crucial in limiting the environmental impacts of the incident.
