The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) says they recommend closing Scarborough State Beach-South in Narragansett and Barrington Town Beach for swimming due to high bacteria levels.

RIDOH noted that Scarborough Beach North remains open for swimming.

The state health department says they will continue to monitor and review beach quality regularly to ensure “safe bathing” throughout the summer.

The status of a beach can change as new data becomes available, RIDOH said.

The most current information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH’s beach telephone line at 401-222-2751.
