RIDOH recommends reopening Briar Point Beach

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended reopening Briar Point Beach in Coventry Friday.

RIDOH said that the beachgoers can safely swim in the water since bacteria levels have returned to normal.

The department recommended reopening 12 beaches Thursday after closing many of them at the beginning of the week.

Officials said they will continue to monitor the bacteria levels and water quality through Labor Day.
