RIDOT announces road closures and adjustments for the weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced several road closures and adjustments that will affect traffic patterns this upcoming weekend.

Starting Friday night, there will be series of lane closures on Interstate 95 near Route 10 exit 33 at the Cranston-Providence border.

The closures will take place over the next four weeks as crews replace the Wellington Avenue Bridge.

Traffic is expected to be impacted due to only two lanes being open in both directions. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes, such as Interstate 295 or Route 10.

The closures will last from 8 p.m. Fridays to 5 a.m. the following Mondays. A signed detour for Wellington Avenue will go into effect Monday and be in place for a month.

RIDOT also announced the Gano Street exit off of Interstate 195 will be closed for two months.

In order to reach Gano Street a detour will be in place from the South Main Street/exit 1C off-ramp, Pike Street, South Water Street, and India Street.

The lane splits on the Washington Bridge just before the exit will be removed, which RIDOT said is happening three months ahead of schedule.

On Sunday starting at 3 p.m., Route 146a South will be temporarily closed to Route 146 south in North Smithfield. The road will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

Traffic will be detoured to Greenville Road and Farnum Pike before returning to Route 146 south. Northbound traffic will be reduced from two lanes to one lane.
