RHODE ISLAND (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is urging drivers to be as safe as possible as road conditions could deteriorate overnight.

As the rain ends and temperatures drop into the night, RIDOT is warning of roadways freezing.

RIDOT says they will be pre-treating roads as soon as the rain ends, applying salt to the road into Saturday morning, but warn residents that any roads that do not dry out before the temperatures begin to drop can become icy.

In addition to reducing their speed, RIDOT says drivers should provide additional time for travel and increased distance for stopping. As people may be out with holiday celebrations tonight, it’s especially important to not get behind the wheel impaired so plan ahead accordingly ahead of time.
