RIPTA buses to honor Providence class of 2020

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Public School District is honoring it’s senior class in unique way — mobile billboards are rolling into town on the sides of Rhode Island Public Transit Authority buses.

Since Monday, 25 RIPTA buses in the metro area are sporting the message “Congratulations, Providence Seniors!”

The signs are in English and in Spanish and are in honor of the 50 percent of high school students in the district who rely on RIPTA buses to get to school.

“I’ve gotten some text messages that say, ‘Hey I saw the bus, nice touch!’” said Harrison Peters, the superintendent of Providence schools.”

“It’s not about us,” said Peters. “It’s about those graduating seniors and trying to find every imaginable way to celebrate their amazing success.”

The mobile billboards will be seen on buses around town through the end of June.
