RIPTA extends CEO’s contract for two years despite concerns

Rhode Island Public Transit Authority CEO Scott Avedisian (RIPTA)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority Board of Directors voted to extend CEO Scott Avedisian’s contract for two years today.

“I look forward to the opportunity to continue to work with our board of directors, and thank them for their hard work and diligence on behalf of the authority and the people we serve,” Avedisian said. “Together with our union leadership, executive management and Board, we will continue to deliver a safe, effective world class transit system for the people of Rhode Island.”

Avedisian has been RIPTA’s CEO since June of 2018. He was previously the mayor of Warwick.

He was previously asked to step down from his position by Senate President Dominick Ruggerio over concerns on how the agency was being run.
