PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is hosting it’s 9th annual “Stuff a Bus Food Drive” this weekend.

The food drive will take place at 1493 Hartford Ave. in Johnston from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

“This food drive has become such an important holiday tradition for us as a way to give back to the communities we serve,” said Scott Avedisian, RIPTA’s chief of executive officer.

Anyone interested in helping fill a bus can donate nonperishable food items such as canned goods and cereal.

“Every year, there are more Rhode Islanders facing food insecurity, and we hope that the partnership of our three organizations and the support of our incredibly generous customers, ease the need as we go into the holiday season,” said David Sarlitto, executive director of Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation.

The donations will go to We Share Hope, an organization that is partnered with over 50 churches and charities.
