PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority’s Executive Compensation Committee recommended that its CEO’s contract be extended for one year — months after Senate President Dominick Ruggerio asked for his resignation.

The recommendation will be sent to the full Board of Directors on May 17.

“[I] look forward to the opportunity to continue to work with the Committee, as well as our Board of Directors, and thank them for their hard work and diligence on behalf of the Authority and the people we serve,” said Scott Avedisian.

In February, Ruggerio called for the CEO to step down, citing a driver shortage that impacted school bus routes in Providence and the awarding of a no-bid contract to a political ally of Avedisian.
