RIVERSIDE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals announced Friday that they will be appointing a new president.

Joseph Warzycha has been named the newest President and General Agent of the RISPCA.

A ten-year-veteran of the RISPCA, Warzycha was initially hired as an Animal Cruelty Officer, playing an important role in the Society during his tenure.

Warzycha will replace Dr. Ernest Finocchio, who is retiring from his position. Aside from serving as RISPCA President for nearly two decades, Dr. Finocchio is a familiar face to ABC6 viewers, taking part in weekly “Pick of the Litter” tapings showcasing local animals looking for a good home.

“We are exceptionally fortunate to have had Dr. Finocchio lead the Society for nearly 20 years and cannot overstate our appreciation for all of his great work”, said Board Chair Wayne Kerzirian. “He leaves Mr. Warzycha with a strong foundation from which to build for the future and we look forward to his continuing to be actively involved with the Society as its President Emeritus as the Society enters its 150th year.”

Warzycha will serve in his new role beginning Monday, April 1st.
