RITBA: Bridges to remain closed until midnight

Providence, RI (WLNE) – The Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge, the Mount Hope Bridge, the Newport Pell Bridge and the Sakonnet River Bridge are all closed because of the winter storm.

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) announced the closures Saturday morning. RITBA announced Saturday evening that the bridges would reopen at midnight.

RITBA said emergency vehicles will be able to access the bridges during the closures.

You can check for bridge updates on the RITBA website or by calling 401-423-0803.

Additionally, a statewide travel ban is in effect for Rhode Island until midnight. There are some exceptions for emergencies and essential workers.
