Former Republican Candidate for Governor John Robitaille endorsed Republican Ken Block for Governor Tuesday.
“Ken Block has a clear understanding of the issues affecting Rhode Islanders, and he has a credible plan to improve how the state operates.” said Robitaille.  “Ken’s experience as a job creator and problem solver has served him well in the private sector. This same experience is what we need in a governor to tackle the enormous budget, operational and service issues we face in these difficult economic times.”
Robitaille ran for governor unsuccessfully in 2010 when he lost to Chafee by less than 3%. Despite accusations from Block’s opponent Allan Fung and other Republicans, that Robitaille would have won the election but for Block running as a Moderate, Robitaille said he doesn’t blame Block.
Robitaille said he entered the race too late, was under funded, and didn’t get enough votes.
“I am thrilled to have the endorsement from John Robitaille a strong conservative and a recognized leader within our Republican Party,” said Block.  “I have gotten to know John on a personal level and deeply respect his commitment to our state.  He and I share the same vision of ensuring a better future for our children and grandchildren here in Rhode Island.”
In 2012, Robitaille served as a chairman for the Mitt Romney for President Campaign. As the Gubernatorial Race was shaping up some speculated that Robitaille would enter the race but later Robitaille announced he would not be a candidate.
Earlier in the primary it appeared that Robitaille was leaning toward not endorsing as he encouraged his supporters to make their own decisions on blog posts and in social media. Robitaille has criticized the tone and tenure of the campiagns warning Block and Fung to stay focused on ideas and not go negative.
