Route 79 expressway in Fall River closes permanently on Monday
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced the permanent closure of a part of Route 79.
The Department of Transportation said the high-speed expressway on Route 79 north and south from Veterans Memorials Bridge to Fall River Heritage State Park is scheduled to close permanently Monday.
A release from the Department of Transportation said local traffic will be routed to Davol Street on either side of the expressway.
Officials further advised that the speed limit on Davol Street is 30 mph.
In addition to the closure, officials said the current U-turn bridge located at Brightman Street will also close permanently.
Commuters are being asked to afford themselves extra time to adjust to the new traffic patterns.
