Runners, walkers raise thousands to help fight Leukemia

Dozens of runners came out Sunday, despite the rainy weather, to raise money for a good cause.
It was the second annual “Miles for Michelle” 1k, 5k and 10k walk and run at Bryant University. Thousands of dollars were raised to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Rhode Island.
The event honors Michelle Hopkins, an 11 year old Smithfield girl who died of Leukemia back in 1981. Her childhood friend Carla Mulhern spearheaded the fundraiser.
ABC6 was the media sponsor for the event, which included a concert by the legendary local band, “Mark Cutler and the Men of Great Courage.” ABC6 Chief Political Reporter Mark Curtis was Master of Ceremonies, along with DJs Courtney Kelly and Kristin Lessard from B-101 Radio.
Michelle's mom Cheryl Hopkins and her two sisters Kerri and Kristen spoke to the crowd and thanked them.
