Sanders says Regunberg will be ‘next congressperson from Rhode Island’
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Sen. Bernie Sanders visited the Ocean State Sunday to support Aaron Regunberg’s 1st Congressional District campaign.
Regunberg and Sanders were joined by Association of Flight Attendants International President Sara Nelson and musician Vanessa Carlton for a get-out-the-vote rally at the Columbus Theatre in Providence that began at 12 p.m.
“Bernie Sanders is an American hero, and I’m excited to welcome him to Rhode Island for the rally of a lifetime,” Regunberg said.
State Reps. Cherie Cruz and Leonela Felix as well as Providence Councilwoman Sue AnderBois were also in attendance.
During his speech supporting Regunberg, Sanders said that Americans “are living in the most difficult times in [their] lives,” but when people from all walks of like come together they can make real change.
“I am going to tell you why I am here to make sure Aaron becomes the next congressperson from Rhode Island,” he said. “We don’t just need another Democratic vote in Congress. We need people who have the guts to take on powerful special interests and fight for the working class of this country, and Aaron will be one of those people.”
A recent internal poll released by Gabe Amo’s campaign put Regunberg in the lead of the race with 28%.
