A Saunderstown man has been arrested on child molestation charges after an alleged incident at a Newport International Polo event.

It is alleged that 52-year-old Brian Smith approached two ten-year-old children at a Newport International Polo event on July 19. While talking to them, police say he touched the children, including underneath one child’s skirt.

An investigation by Portsmouth Police Detectives led to Smith’s arrest on Monday in Lynnfield, Mass. He was held as a fugitive of justice on one count of 2nd degree child molestation and one count of simple assault.

Smith was released on $10,000 cash bail and turned himself in to Newport District Court where he was arraigned and released on $30,000 surety bail.
