Many schools in Rhode Island are closed and nearly two dozen flights have been canceled at T.F. Green Airport as the state digs out of up to 11 inches of snow.
Schools in Providence, Pawtucket and Newport are among those closed Wednesday. T.F. Green officials are urging travelers to check with their airlines. Nearly all morning departing flights have been canceled, while afternoon departures are still listed as on time. Only a few arriving flights have been canceled.
The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority says three bus routes are being detoured until further notice because of the storm, including two in Providence and another in Newport.
The National Weather Service says snowfall totals include 11 inches in North Smithfield and nearly 6 inches in Providence, with below-zero wind chills.
