Authorities are still searching the water off Barrington Beach for a man who went missing while out on his boat.

A Coast Guard chopper and search crews combed the waters off the beach for hours Thursday night looking for the missing boater, identified as Stas Antons, described as an accomplished triathlete who recently moved to Barrington.

Barrington Police and Fire were called to the beach around 5:30 p.m. after a family member reported that Antons was out on a small boat in the area but never returned home. A massive water search was underway after his unmanned vessel was located anchored off shore. His family believes he may have went for a swim.

The Narragansett Marine Boat Task Force deployed about seven to eight boats as well as six divers to the area around where the boat was located.

"We've been searching the Bay Area that the boat was last seen and Police and DEM have been conducting and investigation on shore to determine the possibility of what's exactly going on… which were not 100 percent sure of yet,” said Chief Gerald Bessette of the Barrington Fire Department.

The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has taken custody of a boat and removed it from the water.

The Coast Guard returned Friday morning with a boat crew and helicopter along with local authorities.
