Search for Missing Swimmer Suspended

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) – The Coast Guard has suspended its search off the coast of Narragansett for a missing swimmer.
The man was reported missing at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Crews from Coast Guard, Narragansett police and fire departments and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management searched for nearly 18 hours and over about 70 square miles without finding the man. The Coast Guard said late Monday afternoon the search is being called off unless there are further developments.
Police said he told a family on Narragansett Town Beach that he was going for a swim. Rescuers say the family saw him enter the water, but not return. They described him as 6 feet fall and in his early 20s.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the swimmer to call the Coast Guard at 508-457-3211.
