Second Braintree officer injured in shootout released from hospital

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WLNE) – The second officer who was injured during a domestic violence call last week has been released from South Shore Hospital.

Officer Billy Cushing was escorted home from the hospital on Friday by fellow officers. His colleague, Officer Matthew Donaghue, was released from Boston Medical Center on Saturday.

The officers were injured while responding to a domestic violence call near the Braintree Village apartments last Friday. The suspect fled into nearby woods, where he ambushed the officers and their K9.

The suspect and the K9, Kitt, were both killed.
