Second man arrested on accessory charge in deadly New Bedford shooting
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday that a second man was arrested in connection to a deadly shooting in New Bedford.
District Attorney Thomas Quinn said 25-year-old Wyllie Monteiro was taken into custody in Dartmouth.
Monteiro is set to be arraigned in New Bedford District Court on Thursday.
He is the second man facing an accessory to murder after the fact charge in the shooting death of 20-year-old Lorenzo Gomes early Monday morning.
Sterling Robinson, 24, was arrested that evening in Fall River. He was being held without bail.
New Bedford police officers found Gomes in his vehicle on Belleville Avenue after witnesses claimed to hear gunshots in the area shortly after midnight. Investigators believe Gomes was trying to drive himself to a hospital with a gunshot wound when he lost consciousness.
Gomes was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he died.
Authorities have not arrested a suspected shooter.
The homicide investigation remains active.
