Second man charged as accessory in New Bedford homicide held without bail
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A second man charged as an accessory in a New Bedford homicide was arraigned on Thursday.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced that Wyllie Monteiro, 25, was arrested in Dartmouth.
Monteiro pleaded not guilty to an accessory to murder after the fact charge in New Bedford District Court. He was held without bail.
Monteiro was the second man charged as an accessory in the killing of 20-year-old Lorenzo Gomes early Monday morning.
Authorities arrested 24-year-old Sterling Robinson in Fall River later that day. He was also held without bail at his arraignment.
New Bedford police responded to a 911 call shortly after midnight for a report of gunfire.
Witnesses told police they thought they heard gunshots in the area of Tallman and North Front streets.
Officers searched the area and found Gomes in his vehicle on Belleville Avenue.
Investigators believe he tried to drive himself to a hospital and lost consciousness.
Gomes was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he died.
The homicide investigation remains active.
