Section of Admiral Kalbfus Road in Newport to close amid RIDOT work this weekend

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will temporarily close Admiral Kalbfus Road at the old Route 138 overpass as part of the $74 million Pell Bridge Ramps project this weekend.

The closure between the Newport roundabout and the former Newport Grand will begin Friday at 9 p.m. and last until Sunday evening.

RIDOT crews are set to demolish the old overpass, which was taken out of service last year.

The department will put up detour signs for eastbound and westbound traffic.

Drivers are advised to leave early or take alternative routes this weekend.

RIDOT said the work will not impact traffic to and from the Pell Bridge or downtown Newport.
