Security heightened in RI, RISP K9 units head to Boston

Rhode Island State Police say that local law enforcement and capital police are being advised to be on heightened alert following the Boston bombings.

State Police have alerted the sheriff's department, local law enforcement and RI Capital Police to exercise heightened alert in public areas.

RI State Police also say that Massachusetts State Police have requested 4 K9 bomb sniffing units to help out in Boston. The dogs and handlers are currently headed to Boston.

In addition the Rhode Island Blood Center is shipping a load of blood to Boston Hospitals to help those who have been injured in the incident.
