Seekonk officer killed in Somerset crash honored by first responders
SEEKONK, Mass. (WLNE) — The body of officer Kourtney DeForitis was led back to her station by Seekonk police on Monday — where dozens of local emergency crews waited at attention.
The 28-year-old patrolwoman from Taunton was killed in a motorcycle crash in Somerset Saturday morning. A male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family, police, and town leaders described her as an “outstanding” patrolwoman of three years with the department, with a contagious laugh and bright smile.
She was often seen working with children and schools across town.
Her body travelled to Seekonk from the office of the state medical examiner in Providence.
The DeForitis family created a GoFundMe page to help cover her funeral expenses.
The crash remains under investigation.
