Sen. Sandra Cano announces run for Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional seat
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Sen. Sandra Cano announced Monday that she will run for Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional seat.
“Our community needs someone who knows what it is like to face the challenges that so many of our neighbors face on a daily basis,” said Cano. “Someone with the life experience and Democratic values to fight for working families across our state.”
The seat opened after Rep. David Cicilline said last month he was resigning from Congress this summer to serve as the new president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation.
Cano, a Democrat representing Pawtucket’s District 8, said she will “continue the strong advocacy of Congressman Cicilline.”
The Democrat said that a formal campaign launch will take place in the coming weeks.
Aside from Cano, Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos said she’s looking to replace Cicilline.
