PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed says she won’t call for a special session in the fall to work on a new plan to toll large commercial trucks to fund bridge repairs, even though the House speaker wants to.

Paiva Weed said Tuesday she’ll only bring lawmakers back if there are judicial appointments.

She ruled out meeting in the fall for a new toll proposal, or a proposal to provide public funding to help build a Providence stadium for the Pawtucket Red Sox.

The Senate endorsed the governor’s toll plan before the regular session ended last week. The House didn’t.

House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello wants to return in the fall to consider a modified plan that accounts for the trucking industry’s concerns.

Mattiello says he hopes Paiva Weed changes her mind.
