WASHINGTON (AP) – The Senate has rejected the summoning of witnesses in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.
That all but ensures Trump’s eventual acquittal as the extraordinary proceedings begin to come to a close.
Still, senators appeared ready to push off a final vote on acquittal until next week.
Timing was fluid, with the trial conflicting with Monday’s Democratic Iowa Caucuses and next Tuesday’s State of the Union Address.
