PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Senate passed the Reproductive Privacy Act 21-17 Wednesday afternoon.

Supporters and protestors alike gathered at the State House early Wednesday morning ahead of a vote on the Senate floor on the controversial reproductive rights legislation.

People of all ages and beliefs crowded the hallways of the State House hours before legislators even arrived, to let them know how they feel about the Reproductive Healthcare Act.

The controversial bill, which aims to codify Roe v. Wade into state law, was passed by the Health and Human Services committee on Thursday, after being transferred there from the Senate Judiciary Committee when the bill appeared to be heading for defeat.

The bill now heads to the House of Representatives who will also be voting on the bill Wednesday.

If the bill passes through the house it will head to the Governor’s desk.
