Driver charged with DUI in Warwick after crash leaves woman in ‘serious condition’

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick police said Saturday that the driver in a crash that left a woman in “serious condition” has been charged with DUI.

Lt. Tim Kenyon said that the crash happened just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Warwick and Killey avenues.

The man driving was heading north on Warwick Avenue when he swerved and hit a pole. The impact sent the woman sitting in the backseat flying out of the vehicle.

She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where police said she is in serious condition.

Kenyon said that the driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, resulting in serious bodily injury; driving so as to endanger, resulting in serious bodily injury; and refusal to submit a chemical test. He is being held until a bail hearing is scheduled.

The identities of those involved have yet to be released.
