Severe drought conditions expanded across Southern New England

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — An updated drought monitor was released Thursday morning and as expected, severe drought conditions have been expanded across the area. The previous drought monitor had much of the area under moderate drought conditions.

Most of Rhode Island, excluding the immediate coastline, along with most of Norfolk and half of Plymouth counties in Massachusetts, are now under severe drought conditions. The immediate coastline was also upgraded from abnormally dry conditions to moderate drought conditions.

The U.S. drought monitor will continue to issue updates on every Thursday morning at 8:30.
