Severe weather threat increases as we head through the day
Gusty winds, heavy downpours
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — We are starting out cloudy this morning, but as we head through the day, the sun comes out and we get the daytime heating which increases our storm threat.
Stay weather aware this afternoon as we see the storms start to fire up to the west of us and head our direction. This will be a bit of an issue during the commute especially if you need to get from Boston to Providence as you head home around 5pm.
Here’s how the timing of the storms plays out:
4pm: Storms start approaching the area.
5-9pm: storms move across the area and seem to push out of after 9-10pm.
Heat Advisory is in effect now through 8am Saturday.
To avoid heat exhaustion/ heat stroke make sure you do the following:
- stay hydrated.
- take frequent breaks in the shade if outdoors.
- check on the elderly and those without air conditioning.
- bring pets in, give them shade, and plenty of water.
